Golden Cedar synthetic roofing products are Cool Roof Rated and Title 24 compliant. A CeDUR synthetic roof combines the desirable cedar shake look with the latest in design and technology. All Golden Cedar synthetic shakes are solid throughout with no cavity back and molded from natural cedar shakes. CeDUR shakes are manufactured in three multi-width sizes, 5 1/4” shakes, 7 1/4” shakes, and 12 1/4” shakes. CeDUR synthetic shakes will, by design, shift color upon exposure to the Sun. This color change takes place gradually over the first 90 days of installation (depending on time and intensity of Sun exposure) and then stabilizes at a weathered wood color for the life of the product. Our synthetic roofing products do not incorporate UV inhibitors or UV stabilizers and your roof will age naturally with the Sun. Natural movement is designed into our product to give your roof the most authentic wood shake appearance.

Cool Roof Rated Roofing Product Golden Cedar

Golden Cedar provides a warm wood shake look and is similar in appearance to CeDUR Live Oak. Golden Cedar is Cool Roof Rated and Title 24 Compliant for Los Angeles County California and Southern California communities.

Golden Cedar Background

The inspiration for the Golden Cedar product comes from the Cedrus deodara Aurea Golden, this tree species thrives in warmer climates, notably Southern California and the southern United States. It is known for its eye-catching golden colored leaves. Golden Cedar is similar in color tone to CeDUR Live Oak with less hints of honey brown and more hints of gold and yellow. Not only does our Golden Cedar color look just like natural cedar shake but it offers many additional benefits.

Golden Cedar is a Cool Roof Rated Product, making it perfect for use in California and Los Angeles County. A Cool Roof is one that strongly reflects sunlight and cools itself by efficiently emitting UV light back to its surroundings. The roof literally stays cooler and reduces the amount of heat conducted to the building below. The two basic characteristics that determine the "coolness" of a roof are solar reflectance and thermal emittance. Both properties are rated on a scale from 0 to 1, where 1 is the most reflective or emissive.

Additional Benefits of Golden Cedar:

  • Title 24 Compliant

    • The California Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards are designed to ensure new and existing buildings achieve energy efficiency and preserve outdoor and indoor environmental quality. These measures (Title 24, Part 6) are listed in the California Code of Regulations.

  • Cool Roof Rated

    • Golden Cedar synthetic roofing shakes are Cool Roof Rated.

  • Insulation Value

    • CeDUR shakes are rated at an insulation value of R > 2.0 R factor (approximately 20% greater than natural heavy shakes).

    • This may provide higher roof insulation value, potential reduced air conditioning use, potential utility rebates, and the ability to meet local California building codes.

  • Comfort

    • A CeDUR roof may help make your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

straight course synthetic roof

Straight Course Installation

A straight course CeDUR roof installation offers a more uniform wood appearance. This is when CeDUR shake courses are aligned straight across the roof horizontally. A 10 inch (254 mm) weather exposure for straight course installations is standard with 3/8” inch keyways.

staggered course synthetic roof

Staggered Course Installation

A staggered course installation provides a more natural and rustic wood shake look. When 1-inch staggered installation is used, shake exposure is laid at 9 inch (229 mm) exposure and random shakes are at 10 inch (254 mm) exposure. More CeDUR material is needed for a staggered installation. The maximum recommended stagger is 2 inches with 3/8” inch keyways.

CeDUR Synthetic Roofing Products and Sizing:

Please note: Chalk lines should be snapped on the underlayment with the tips of the shakes following the lines. Do not snap lines on the CeDUR shakes or use red chalk as the chalk may permanently discolor the shakes. Material pallets should not be stacked more than two pallets high. During roof installation, please ensure proper keyway spacing between shakes and proper course alignment. Keyways should not line up vertically from course to course. More information is below.
